Every year on Labor Day two million people gather on Brooklyn's Eastern Parkway to take part in America's largest street parade:

 West Indian Carnival in Brooklyn

Expatriates from all of the islands in the Caribbean gather there, sporting flags of nationalism and colors of pride. Thousands of vibrantly costumed revelers shake and dance their way through Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood. The parade (similar to New Orleans's Mardi Gras without the drunkenness) takes its roots from the carnivals held before Lent in Trinidad and other island and South American nations.
